Methods and Tools
Background
  • Apply technical skills and experience with web design, user-interface design, information design, software tools, and a creative perspective to projects.
  • Leverage technical background, adeptness in dealing with software/hardware issues, and good communications skills to making the project successful.
  • Experience contributing to the process in both small and large company environments.

Tools

I use a variety of tools and are not overly partial to any one tool. Of course I gravitate to what I know, but at the same time try to keep open mind for tools that may better fit the project's needs. Here is a partial of the tools we typically use:

  • Storyboard: Visio, Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Graphics: Photoshop, PaintShopPro, Fireworks
  • Web Development: Macromedia Dreamweaver Ultradev, Alliare ColdFusion, Microsoft FrontPage, Macromedia Flash, Yahoo! Store
  • CD-ROM Development: Macromedia Director
  • Database: Microsoft Access
  • Other Software Tools and programs: Dydacomp Mail Order Manager, R&R Report Writer

Project Phases

Almost all projects, whether big or small have a lifecycle. The lifecycle typically contains the at least one cycle of the phases listed below. I typically like to have some involvment in all phases. This way, with each project I can learn and apply the new-found knowledge to future projects. Often it is tempting to skip a phases in an effort to get something done quickly. But when you skip a phase, often the lifecycle becomes longer, and less predicable.

  • Learn and Gather Information
  • Design
  • Test Design and Incorporate Feedback
  • Produce
  • Test and Fix
  • Release and Learn
